Dear Friends,
Falls Lake is sick and we do not have the luxury of waiting to see what will happen if we do nothing - it is the future of our children that is at stake - we must make Falls Lake well again, and we must do it now.
The State of North Carolina has proposed rules to clean up Falls Lake and they are currently accepting comments from the public.  We need people to tell the State why you love Falls Lake and want it to be protected.   There are a lot of industry folks that want the rules to be unsuccessful in caring for this precious body of water, so every positive voice counts.  The comment period is open to all and residents of all ages are encouraged to send in their thoughts, so forward this message to a friend and ask them to help too!

Which future do you want for Falls Lake?
    Closed Falls Lake.jpg    falls-lake-nc-1a.jpg

We have provided basic content in these letters, but personalization is key and keeping comments simple and heart-felt is fine.  It will mean a lot  for the State to hear stories about how you and your family have enjoyed Falls Lake and that you want it clean and safe for future use.  Don't forget to ask them to clean the whole lake and to do it within 25 years!

Additional written comments may be sent to:

    Raleigh, NC 27699-1617
Thanks in advance for your help protecting Falls Lake.

Dear Friends,

Your drinking water supply is in danger.

Falls Lake is badly polluted and your voice is needed to encourage an effective and timely cleanup effort!  Here are 2 things you can do:
1.) Please submit written comments on Falls Lake rules by August 16 in order to help clean and protect your critical drinking water supply for Raleigh and Eastern Wake.

2.)  Donate $10 for public education!  WakeUP wants to encourage Wake residents to voice their concerns for clean drinking water by running informative news ads at a cost of $1,800.  If 180 WakeUP supporters each gave $10, WakeUP could successfully fund this important, timely newspaper ad alert.  PLEASE DONATE $10 BY JULY 31st:

Thanks for all your support!

Information was presented about the transportation corridors and technologies being considered. Light rail, commuter rail, bus rapid transit, and an expanded bus service are up for discussion. Information from the meetings will be used to determine "locally preferred alternatives" on each of the rail transportation corridors. The first round of public information sessions involving regional transit service has been completed. This public input will be entered into the analysis of alternatives for services.

The meeting provided citizens the opportunity to walk through the presentation board areas, view short videos, ask questions, and provide feedback via the survey forms provided.

Triangle Pets Find Their Way Home

Wake County has a new tool to help reunite lost pets and their owners - the Triangle Lost Pets web site - and it is a huge success! There have been over 320 postings of lost and found animals - and the site only launched a month ago!  Anyone in Wake or surrounding counties can post descriptive information and view maps of where pets have
been lost or found.

Two out of every three pets that arrive at the Wake County Animal Center are lost or stray - that's over 200 animals every week! To prevent losing your pets, have them microchipped and make sure they are always wearing a collar and tag with your current phone number and address..

Have your Pet Fixed for Less

There are plenty of good reasons to have your pet spayed or neutered. But did you know that it can cost as little as $20.00? Learn more by viewing a listing of low-cost spay/neuter options and by watching a video about spay/neuter.

Afraid of long-term commitment? Try fostering!

The Wake County Animal Center Foster Program needs volunteers to provide short-term care for friendly dogs and cats in their homes. All vet care, food, medicine and supplies are provided by the Center.

The Foster Program places
stray and homeless animals in temporary foster homes, until they are available for adoption. In June alone, 42 animals were placed in foster care to recover from minor illnesses, for extra socialization, or because they were too young or too small to be adopted.
