WakeUp Wake County Update

Legislators ignore opposition to budget cuts and bad bills
Dear Friends,

Awash with protests, letters, phone calls, and emails opposing dramatic state budget cuts and a number of bad bills, the NC House of Representatives carelessly marched forward and voted to approve legislation that will reverse progress for emerging sustainable communities across North Carolina.

Worrisome NC House budget approved:
  • Sizable cuts to NCDENR will weaken programs that currently serve to protect your endangered drinking water supply and deteriorating air quality.
  • Anti-rail language also exists in the approved House budget, which will require an extensive legislative review process prior to accepting federal rail funds (section28.15).
H422, "No High-Speed Rail Money from Federal Gov't" revived:
SB183, the billboard bill, undergoes changes:

WakeUP Wake County encourages you to voice your opposition to regressive actions made by the NC House of Representatives. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper explaining how cuts to air and water protection programs, education, and unnecessary burdens on public transit progress will negatively effect the quality of your life and the future of our community.
