Board of Commissioners Friday Update
Friday, January 7, 2011
ITEM 1. CREDIT UNION COMPLETES SALE
The State Employees Credit Union has purchased the land at the corner of Wendell Boulevard and Rolesville Road, previously occupied by Community Animal Hospital. SECU officials say that their new prototype building will be constructed there. The building has been constructed on two sites in Raleigh thus far. Plans are to start on the project within the next year.
ITEM 2. NEWEST MEMBER OF THE WENDELL POLICE DEPARTMENT
Please congratulate Officer Franklin on the birth of his daughter, Karis Franklin, born 1-2-11. Mother and daughter are doing great.
ITEM 3. MPO - 101
Want a better understanding of the function and purpose of the area’s Metropolitan Planning Organization and the impact it has on transportation planning in the Wendell community? If so, the Capitol Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold MPO-101 in order to provide clarity on a number of topics including how to best position your projects for funding. The workshop will be held on January 26, 2011 at the MPO office at 127 W. Hargett Street, Suite 800 in downtown Raleigh from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Those wishing to attend may contact Diane Wilson at
Diane.Wilson@campo-nc.us by Wednesday January 19
th. .
ITEM 4. INCLEMENT WEATHER
The Wendell Public Works Department has restocked its supplies of salt and ice melt in the event of inclement weather this weekend and early next week. Public works employees are on-call over the weekend in the event of a snow or ice storm and contact has been made with Progress Energy in an effort to prepare for a major winter storm event. During the last snow, due to the weight of the wet snow on trees and power lines, more than 17,000 area customers were without power at one time or another. As always, access to police, fire and rescue parking lots and connecting roadways will be cleared first. Vehicles have been refueled; generators and other equipment have also been checked in the event they are needed.
ITEM 5. ZEBULON-WENDELL EXPRESS BUS SERVICE
Ridership on the TriangleTransit Zebulon-Wendell-Raleigh route has been increasing each quarter since the beginning of the service on October 26, 2009.
During the first quarter of the current fiscal year, 5,824 passenger trips were
provided, which is a 34% increase in ridership from the previous quarter
(FY2010 Q4).
The Zebulon-Wendell-Raleigh route has been improving each quarter in
productivity, which is measured by the number of passengers trips per each
revenue hour of service provided. The peak direction of the ZWX service
(towards Raleigh in the morning and leaving Raleigh in the afternoon) has
been performing similarly to the average of the all the Triangle Transit
Express routes.
