Dear Friends,
Today I reach out to you, citizens of Wake County, to support WakeUP Wake County. I strongly believe in this organization and its work for good growth planning in our community. Please help WakeUP by donating $25, $50, or $100 to help us reach our fundraising goal of $60,000 so that we can represent YOUR VOICE in 2011!
WakeUP needs your support now more than ever to advocate on YOUR behalf for good growth planning, hold timely, quality forums on transit, schools, drinking water, and communicate with the media at key times on local issues relevant to our whole community.
As a resident of Wake County since 1973, I have seen tremendous growth and change. As a county commissioner in 1996-2000, growth issues were brought to my attention as it was painfully clear we had to manage our resources wisely or we would not be a destination for economic growth nor would we continue to be a place where families wanted to live. However, until WakeUP started in 2006, we did not have public citizens organized to advocate for better management of growth in Wake County.
I feel deeply committed to the core values held by WakeUP: fiscal responsibility and fairness in public policy and spending public funds wisely on resources our community values. Sound policies for managing growth will help us conserve the way of life we cherish in Wake County. I am a member of WakeUP because someone has to value this work, and someone has to do it.
I am most proud of WakeUP's long term vision. We all get caught up in the here and now of daily life, but someone must look at the impact over time and plan for the future generations, our children and grandchildren. WakeUP considers many of the long term affects of our current issues and is working to keep us on the right track for avoiding the problems that would come with lack of planning for water, roads, schools, affordable housing, etc.
I am not the only one who recognizes WakeUP's great accomplishments! In the past year WakeUP was awarded the NC Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar's Community Organizer Award, NC Chapter of the American Planning Association's Citizen Planner Award to Karen Rindge and NC Justice Center's Defender of Justice Award to Great Schools in Wake.
You have the opportunity to take action for good growth planning by donating to WakeUP Wake County so that we can work hard to preserve Wake County for you. We need your help to continue to expand our outreach base on good growth issues that affect us all. Please donate today!
We pledge to use your donation wisely in 2011 by advocating for good growth for Wake County. Thank you for your support.
