For nearly four years, WakeUP Wake County has been working hard advocating for good growth in Wake County. Your financial support and volunteerism are making a difference. Our municipal, county and state officials and the public are more aware of the need to manage our
drinking water supply better, expand our
public transit system, achieve academic excellence in our
schools and implement adequate and equitable funding solutions to support rapid growth.
But there is much more to be done. We hope you can help us achieve our fundraising goal of $40,000 by donating $25, $30 or $40, and consider becoming a WakeUP volunteer.
DOUBLE your money! If you donate today, your contribution will be doubled...thanks to $10,000 matching grant from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. Learn more about growth issues and WakeUP by viewing our new video!
Over the remainder of the year, WakeUP's work includes...
Falls Lake Cleanup. It is now estimated it will cost $1.5 billion to clean up our water supply. WakeUP will continue to be your voice for new state rules to protect our water supply and funding to clean up the current mess.
Transit Planning. Public meetings are being held this summer to brief citizens about a regional transit plan. These meetings are critical for helping define what our regional transit system will be. WakeUP will be there to advocate for a multi-modal transit plan that includes expanded and improved bus service, light rail, commuter rail, high-speed rail, local circulators like streetcars and better options for walking and bicycling.
Little River Reservoir. WakeUP will host a major community forum to educate the public about the proposal to develop a new reservoir in the Little River watershed in Eastern Wake. The need, environmental impacts, conservation and costs will all be discussed.
Wake County Public Schools. WakeUP's new initiative, Great Schools In Wake, will host a major community forum on September 25:
Student Achievement: The Next Decade! It will focus on improving math and science education and ensuring every child graduates --on time and ready for their future.
Please help us make our next four years even more successful by making a generous tax deductible donation to WakeUP Wake County and also consider becoming a WakeUP volunteer.
Sincerely,
Yevonne Brannon,
Chair, WakeUP Wake County Board of Directors
