Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe - WakeUP Wake County is celebrating four years of moving and shaking in Wake County.  In just a short period of time, we've become THE advocacy organization for responsible growth and a sustainable future in Wake County.
YOUR SUPPORT has driven WakeUP's efforts over the past four years and allowed us to follow and resolve challenges facing our water supply, the future of education, and to work toward improved transit options.
Our NEW VIDEO speaks volumes about why Wake County needs WakeUP.  Click here to view it, and please share it with a friend!

In our brief history, we've made a big impact on our community.  Whether it's hosting forums on the state of our public schools and water quality, or advocating for a regional transit plan, fair growth funding, and well-planned growth policies - WakeUP Wake County is a grassroots organization that is turning heads and making a difference.

2) In September, WakeUP will be holding a public education forum on the proposed Little River Reservoir to get answers from our leaders to these important questions:
  • Does Wake County need to build the reservoir to keep up with growth?
  • Are the environmental impacts on wildlife, wetlands etc. worth damming the river?
  • Has Raleigh Public Utilities first exhausted efforts for water conservation?
  • Is the amount of water worth the public expense of more than $250 million?
3) Great Schools In Wake, a new WakeUP program, will be hosting a major community forum on September 25.  Student Achievement: The Next Decade! will focus on how we can improve our math and science education and make sure every child graduates--on time and ready for their future.
4) Transit meetings planned: the Triangle Regional Transit Program will hold public meetings starting June 28 to brief citizens on a developing regional transit plan.  These meetings are critical in helping to define what our regional transit system will be.  WakeUP will be there to make sure there is public input on our region's transit vision and to lobby for a multi-modal transit plan that uses a variety of transit options, including expanded and improved bus service, light rail, commuter rail, high-speed rail, and local circulators like streetcars.
Help us celebrate our success on this important anniversary by allowing us to continue to be a vital participant in the dialog that ensures Wake County is healthy and competitive in the long run.  Make our next four years even more successful than the first by making a tax deductible donation to WakeUP Wake County.
Allow us to reach our $40,000 fundraising goal with a generous contribution - the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation has pledged to match your donation up to $10,000.  FOR every donation you make, you will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card from Empire Restaurants (Sitti, Duck & Dumpling, or Gravy).

Every day, more than 100 people move to Wake County.  There is much more work to be done in the areas of clean and healthy drinking water, equitable education, land use and development, and efficient transportation.  Your contribution to WakeUP Wake County will help ensure that our community remains a vibrant place with abundant opportunities for residents and newcomers alike.

Where will WakeUP and your community be in four years?  It's all up to you!!

Sincerely,

Yevonne Brannon,
Chair, WakeUP Wake County Board
