ITEM 1. Wendell Chamber of Commerce, June 25, 2010
Driven Praise Band, A Christian rock band, will perform at J. Ashley Wall Towne Square (at the corner of Cypress and W. Third streets) from 6:30-8:30. Bring a lawn chair. The American Legion will sell hotdogs and drinks.
ITEM 2. HURRICANE SEASON, JUNE 1, 2010
Hurricane season began June 1, 2010. Forecasters have predicted an active
hurricane season. To keep customers updated, Progress Energy has developed an
online outage map showing up-to-date information about current outages and
estimated restoration times. The outage map can be viewed at
Progress Energy also sends updates on storm-related outage restorations via
Twitter. Customers can follow Progress Energy at
Progress Energy customers who lose power during a storm should call the 24-hour
automated outage line at 1-800-419-6356.
The Carolina Journal reported that proposed legislation announced Thursday would likely lead to a ban of Internet sweepstakes machines across the state later this year, forcing dozens of businesses that have opened in Southeastern North Carolina in recent months to close. The N.C. Senate on Monday evening is expected to decide whether to approve the electronic gaming ban, which would then also have to pass the House.

ITEM 5. TRIANGLE REGIONAL TRANSIT PROGRAM, JULY 14, 2010
The Triangle Regional Transit Program has been established to focus on highway, transit and transportation management alternatives throughout the region. Public meetings have been scheduled throughout the Triangle during the months of June and July. One of six public meetings will be held on July 14, 2010 in the Knightdale Town Hall from 5:30 until 8 pm.

The following is an update of committee assignments, information and action:
Land Use and Economic Development Committee
UDO Ad Hoc Sub-Committee
The UDO will be considered by the Wendell Planning Board on Monday, June 21, 2010
The UDO Committee will reconvene on Thursday, June 24 at 7 p.m. in the Wendell Community Center. This meeting will be after the scheduled vote on the UDO by the Planning Board and before the public hearing at the Monday, June 28, 2010 Board of Commissioners meeting. The Board of Commissioners is encouraged to attend this meeting so the elected officials and UDO Committee members will have an opportunity to discuss comments and recommendations being forwarded from the Planning Board.
A public hearing on the UDO is scheduled for the June 28, 2010 Board of Commissioners meeting.
A vote on the UDO by the Wendell Board of Commissioners is currently scheduled for July 12, 2010
Law Enforcement and Recreation Committee
The Law Enforcement and Recreation Committee met Monday, June 14, 2010 at 5 p.m. in the conference room.

ITEM 9. UPCOMING CHAMBER EVENTS
Wendell Farmer’s Market – open Saturday’s from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Wendell Woman’s Club at the corner of W. Third and Cypress streets.
Wendell t-shirts and hoodies are available from the chamber. T-shirts are $15 and hoodies (with zipper) are $30.
The Chamber will host a Notary Public class on Wednesday, June 23 from 9 a.m. until 4: 30 p.m. Call the Chamber at 365-6318 to register.
