Public hearing - Water & sewer capacity fees
Come show your support for increasing impact fees! We need YOUR voice tomorrow night! Raleigh City Council is holding a public hearing on increasing water and sewer development fees by $700. WakeUP has advocated for a $1000 increase for Raleigh to match other Wake municipalities (county fee average is $3,623, while Raleigh's is just $2,710). WakeUP urges citizens to speak at the hearing in support of raising this impact fee on new development. Growth should pay for growth, including costs for water and sewer hookup. Given Raleigh's budget crisis, increasing water and sewer development or capacity fees on developers will lessen the burden on taxpayers. Under current policy, new development does pay part of the costs for the water and sewer fees, however, taxpayers are bearing a substantial part of the burden for growth.
