Board of Commissioners Friday Update
Friday, December 4, 2009
ITEM 1. SPECIAL CALLED MEETING – MONDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT 6:30 P.M.
As previously communicated, a Special Called Meeting has been called for Monday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall prior to the resumption of the meeting recessed on November 23, which is to begin at 7 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009.
The special called meeting is for consideration of the following matters:
-
Consideration of construction bids received for the ARRA Sidewalk Project for Third Street and Buffalo Street (Project # EL 5100 EB).
-
Contract with Progress Energy for the moving of approximately eight (8) utility poles in conjunction with the ARRA Sidewalk Project for Third Street and Buffalo Street (Project # EL 5100 EB).
These are time-sensitive matters. There is a great deal of paperwork on these items that must be prepared by staff and approved by DOT, and the contracts for these items need to be approved and signed before the end of the year. Because of the holiday schedule, DOT is asking us to take care of these items as soon as possible. Handling these items on December 7th will give town staff, its engineering firm and DOT more time to make sure all of the paperwork for the ARRA Sidewalk Project on Third Street and Buffalo Street is completed by the deadline.
The agenda material for these items will be delivered over the weekend.
ITEM 2. COMMUNITY WATCH GROUPS FORMING
The Police Department has been involved in forming two new community watch groups for Wendell. Historically, there have been two community watch groups – one group (in the Buffalo / Third Street area) was more active. One of the new community watch groups will be an expanded version of the Buffalo / Third Street group.
With the two new community watch groups, the town will be divided into north and south areas, using Third Street as a dividing line. The North will be coordinated by Lynn Pulley and Sergeant Landon Hare. The South will be handled by Tona Whitley and Sergeant Jody Wall. Meetings will likely start in January to better organize the groups. Citizens are encouraged to contact someone in their respective area to get involved.
ITEM 3. STORMWATER INTER-LOCAL AGREEMENT UPDATE
Consideration of the Wendell’s stormwater inter-local agreement with Wake County has now been moved back from the December 7th meeting of the Wake County Board of Commissioners to a meeting in January.
