Board of Commissioners Friday Update

ITEM 1. LAST SATURDAY FOR THE FARMERS MARKET THIS SEASON THIS SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 21ST
Saturday, November 21st will be the last day of the Wendell Farmers Market this season. The Farmers Market is expected to re-open the first Saturday in May.
ITEM 2. 3 OF 3 WENDELL RAMS TEAMS HEADED TO THE THEIR RESPECTIVE SUPER BOWLS – NOVEMBER 22ND
For the first time, all three Wendell youth football teams are headed to their respective division’s Super Bowl. The Super Bowls will be Sunday Nov. 22 at Wakefield High School. Sunday’s line-up is as follows:

Mini Mites: Wendell vs. Clayton Blue

Mighty Mites: Wendell vs. Knightdale

Peewee: Wendell vs. Zebulon
The mini mites are scheduled to start at 2:30.
The East Wake Football League (EWFL) is made up of 13 townships in central North Carolina each with 3 teams (mini’s, mighty’s, peewee’s) ages 6 to 12. Teams in the South Division include Knightdale, Wendell, Clayton Blue, Holly Springs Blue, Zebulon, Fuquay-Varina and Riley Hill. The North Division includes Wake Forest, Bunn, Louisburg, Oak Grove, South Granville, Franklinton, Clayton White and Holly Springs Gold.
ITEM 3. THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE
Town facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
ITEM 4. HOLIDAY DECORATIONS / HISTORIC DISTRICT BANNERS GO UP
The Public Works staff completed the hanging of the holiday decorations around town this week. The lights around town are scheduled to be turned-on for the first time tonight, while the lights in the town square will be turned-on by Santa on December 4th. Also, the staff installed the new historic district banners along Wendell Boulevard and in the downtown historic district at the same time.
ITEM 5. WENDELL HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S 2ND ANNUAL CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS TOUR – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19TH
The Wendell Historical Society’s 2nd Annual Candlelight Christmas Tour will be held on Saturday, December 19th from 3 to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at several locations around town.
ITEM 6. 2ND ANNUAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE / WOMAN’S CLUB WENDELL FINE ARTS EXHIBIT – JANUARY 22-24
The Chamber of Commerce and Woman’s Club will hold their second annual art exhibit Friday, January 22nd through Sunday, January 24th. The opening reception will be at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22nd at the Wendell Woman’s Club. This year’s theme is “Animals in Art”, and the theme is designed to raise awareness of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County.
ITEM 7. DROUGHT UPDATE
Recent rains improved the drought status in our area. Wake County has been downgraded from the “Moderate Drought” category to “Abnormally Dry”. The latest drought advisory map is available online at http://www.ncdrought.org/.
As of 6:00 a.m. this morning, Falls Lake was at 252.27 MSL (mean sea level). The lake’s water supply pool is considered full at 251.5 feet MSL. The Falls Lake water level was at a low of 247.45 feet MSL on November 9th. Information about the Falls Lake water level is available online at http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/neuse.htm.

Town employees enjoyed their annual Thanksgiving Appreciation Luncheon provided by the Wendell Woman’s Club on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Kim McGlyn from the Wendell Chamber of Commerce, who has been selected to serve as the Executive Director of the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce.

Consideration of the Wendell’s stormwater interlocal agreement with Wake County is tentatively scheduled for the December 7th meeting of the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

The free fare period for the Zebulon/Wendell-Raleigh Express Bus Service will run through November 30th. The service runs at peak commute times: Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. After the initial fare free period, the fare for the route is $2.50 per one-way trip or $5.00 per round-trip.
