Board of Commissioners Friday Update

October 16, 2009
ITEM 1. NCSU ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN WORKSHOP TO BE HELD IN WENDELL – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21ST FROM 2:00 TO 7:00 P.M.
The School of Architecture at NC State University will host a design workshop at the Wendell Community Center from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21st. The design workshop will provide a forum for NC State faculty and students to present research and initial ideas to municipal leaders and citizens. Through interactive discussions and design exercises, important perspectives and information will be gathered that will guide the subsequent design and research of the project.
The design workshop is part of the Wake County Affordable Housing Project, a research and design project that will include research on housing needs in Wake County, national and international best practices of affordable housing, and the design of a range of affordable housing models. Issues such as environmental, social and cultural sustainability will be intrinsic to the project. Mixed-use, mixed-income and transit-oriented development will also be incorporated. Other design workshops will be held in other Wake County towns. The project outcomes will be documented and supplied to Wake County Human Services to assist their efforts in providing affordable housing in Wake County.
ITEM 2. FREE FARE PERIOD FOR THE ZWX EXPRESS BUS SERVICE FROM OCTOBER 26TH – NOVEMBER 30TH

The Zebulon/Wendell-Raleigh Express will run at peak commute times: Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. After the initial fare free period, the fare for the route is $2.50 per one-way trip or $5.00 per round-trip.
