The East Wake Business Alliance is working with teachers and members of the eastern Wake community to establish a scholarship in memory of longtime career counselor Gary Dixon.

Gary died May 20 following a long battle with cancer. He was a teacher and counselor at East Wake for 16 years. As a counselor he was the leader of the East Wake Business Alliance which works to foster relationships between students, the school and the local business community.

Fellow teachers at East Wake created the scholarship prior to Gary’s death and it was his desire that the money raised be given to a student who wants to pursue studies at a two-year institution.

The East Wake Business Alliance accepted the responsibility of choosing a scholarship recipient each year and the East Wake Education Foundation has agreed to manage the money that is donated to the effort.

The East Wake Business Alliance is asking you to consider joining them in support of this scholarship. As business people, we all understand, as Gary did, the need to prepare young people for the world of work. It was a mission Gary dedicated his professional life to.

To support this effort, send your check payable to the East Wake Education Foundation to PO Box 1404, Wendell, NC, 27591. Write Gary Dixon Memorial Scholarship in the memo line.
