Board of Commissioners Friday UpdateMarch 6, 2009
ITEM 1. PRESENTATION OF DONATED PICTURES BY McDONALD’SThe general manager of McDonald’s, Claudette Cox, brought some large prints of Wendell historical images to the town hall this afternoon and asked to give them to the town. These pictures were extras from the new McDonald’s. The pictures are very nice, and Manager Bone asked Ms. Cox to come back at Monday’s meeting to present them to the board on behalf of the franchise owner, Gary Thill. Ms. Cox agreed to do so.
ITEM 2. INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS ABOUT THE DRAFT WENDELL PARK MASTER PLAN – THURSDAY, MARCH 12TH AND THURSDAY, MARCH 26THInformational meetings about the draft Wendell Park Master Plan will be held on Thursday, March 12th and Thursday March 26th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The meetings will be “floating meetings” so that citizens can come anytime during that period to see the draft master plan and provide some feedback about the plan.
A Master Plan Facility Survey will also be available at the meetings (and at the park, in general) for input. Such a survey will be a necessary if the town pursues a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant down the road.
Consideration of the park master plan is scheduled for the April 13th Board of Commissioners meeting.
ITEM 3. RESULTS FROM THE TRANSPORTATION FORUM HELD ON THURSDAY, MARCH 5THLast night, Triangle Transit held a transportation forum in the Wendell Courtroom about the possibility of an East Wake express bus service. The purpose of the meeting (and a related public survey) is to gauge public interest in mass transit. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation from the meeting is attached.
The public survey is available at
http://www.gotriangle.org/ewake/index.html. Paper copies are also available at town hall and the Eastern Regional Center. Survey responses will be received until March 13, 2009.
At the meeting, TTA Planner Erik Lanfried stated that over 120 people from Wendell had already fill-out a survey. Erik was very pleased with the questions and comments received at the forum.
If Triangle Transit starts a service in eastern Wake County, it will need a financial commitment from the three towns and/or possible other partners. Wake Forest leaders committed $70,000 in the first year of the project, although that was offset by federal funds.
TTA held similar forums in Knightdale on February 9th and in Zebulon on February 12th.
