ITEM 1. PRESENTATION OF ETJ EXPANSION REQUEST TO LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION ON FEBRUARY 23RD

Mayor Broadwell, Manager Bone and Planner David Bergmark will attend a meeting of the legislative delegation on Monday (4:00 p.m., Room 1228, Legislative Building) to once again present the town’s request for a local bill allowing for expansion of the town’s ETJ.

ITEM 2. POSSIBLE BOARD WORK SESSION WITH HOLLAND CONSULTING

Staff had a good meeting with Dale Holland and Reed Whitesell of Holland Consulting Planners this week. They will have a draft contract for the board to consider at the March 9th board meeting. Staff also hopes to schedule a board work session with the firm in March to help establish economic development goals and priorities.

ITEM 3. WENDELL POLICE DEPARTMENT INVOLVED IN CHARITY SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The Wendell Police Department will be involved in a Charity Softball Tournament on March 28, 2009 Zebulon Community Park. All money donated and raised will be given to the 200 Club of Wake County, an organization dedicated to providing immediate financial help for the spouse and children of police officers, sheriff deputies, firemen, EMS squad members and NCSHP serving in Wake County who lose their life in the line of duty (on the web here).

The teams involved in the tournament include Wendell Police/Fire/Eastern Wake EMS, Knightdale Police, Zebulon Police/Fire Department, Rolesville Police/Fire/Eastern Wake EMS, Wake Forest Police, and Wake Forest Fire Department. All team members must be on the active roster of Police, Fire, or EMS in the town for which they play.

The First Pitch and Opening Ceremonies are at 9am. All family members, friends, etc, encouraged to attend for a day of fun. Donations will be accepted from the public, and there will be a 50/50 drawing. Donations will be accepted from the public, and there will be a 50/50 drawing. ITEM 4. STARS IN THE EAST EVENT

The Eastern Wake Education Foundation “Stars in the East” event is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19th at East Wake High School.

Please let Town Clerk Jonnie Driver know by the February 23rd Board of Commissioners meeting if you plan to attend this event.

ITEM 5. OTHER:

Three of the six new police cars ordered this year were delivered on Thursday. The town had already received one of the cars, and staff expects delivery of the other two cars in the next few weeks.

The Wake County Magistrate’s Office is exploring opportunities to have magistrates for a few hours in each town. A magistrate came to town hall today (from 8:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m.). It is unclear at this time if this practice will be a short-term measure or long-term strategy.

The Board of Adjustment meeting on Thursday, February 12, 2009 was continued to Wednesday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m.

The Triangle Transit bus survey about a possible East Wake Express bus service is available online and will be open until March 13, 2009. A transportation forum about this opportunity will be on Thursday, March 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the Wendell Courtroom.

The town is currently seeking proposals from qualified insurance brokers interested in providing health related benefit services to the town. Proposals must be received by 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17th.

Eastern Wake CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information about the recent break-ins in Wendell churches and businesses. People with information can call 366-CRIME (366-2746).
