First of all, please let the manager or clerk know if you are available this date.
Secondly, please forward topics you would like to discuss to the manager.

ITEM 3. BORE
The bore for the Hanor Lane sewer extension project has been completed. The contractor, Vaughn Utilities, will now proceed with the rest of the Hanor Lane project.

ITEM 4. SIDEWALK AREAS OF CONCERN
Staff would like your input about specific areas of concern that you have for the sidewalk maintenance around town, as well as high priority areas for new sidewalks. Your input is desired as staff works to prepare a draft scope of work for the USDA Rural Development Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) that was discussed with the board at the July 14th meeting. A “Safe Route to Schools” grant program through the NC Department of Transportation may be another funding source to explore.

ITEM 5. HARVEST FESTIVAL IS ONE WEEK AWAY
Wendell Chamber of Commerce Secretary Ula Mae Life reports that preparations for the Harvest Festival (October 3rd and 4th) are going well. The festival will take place from noon-10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. It will feature live radio, the River & the Rooster onstage Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., plus vendors, kids rides, food, health fair and the Band of Oz from 7-10 p.m. Ula Mae stated that over 70 vendors are signed-up for the event.

ITEM 6. DOUG PROCTOR GOLF TOURNAMENT – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD
The Doug Proctor Memorial Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start on Friday, October 3rd at 1:00 p.m. Recreation Director Brinkley Wagstaff reports that 28 teams are signed-up for the event. The proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Capital Improvement Campaign at Wendell Parks and Recreation. Plans include upgrading existing lighting on the Doug Proctor Field and Wendell Park large field.

Other families can purchase a family ticket for $10 (kids under 12 are free). Concert goers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lounge chairs and picnic basket to the Wendell Community Center and have an “indoor picnic” on the gym floor while the Craig Woolard Band plays. (The Craig Woolard Band specializes in beach music.)

ITEM 8. POLICE CAR BIDS
Bids for new police cars have been requested and are due October 1st. Staff plans to compare these bids with the state and federal contract prices (expected mid-October) and will make a recommendation to the board for the purchase of the vehicles.
