ITEM 1. POSSIBLE CHANGE TO QUARTERLY PAYROLL SCHEDULE FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS – TO BE DISCUSSED AT MONDAY’S MEETING

The possibility of changing the payroll disbursements for elected officials to a quarterly basis has been discussed. On the staff level, there is some efficiency in making these disbursements on a quarterly basis. Staff would like to discuss this item under “Other Business” on Monday and see if any elected officials have concerns about this suggested change.

ITEM 2. CHIEF JOHNSON TO BEGIN WORK ON SEPTEMBER 2ND

Police Chief Vance Johnson is scheduled to start work in Wendell on Tuesday, September 2nd. His family has already moved to town while he has remained in Wadesboro to complete his 30-day notice.

ITEM 3. DROUGHT UPDATE

Wake County remains in the “Moderate Drought” category. To view the drought advisory map, visit http://www.ncdrought.org/.

As of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th, the level of Falls Lake was 250.16 feet. This is down 0.74 feet since August 5th. The lake is considered full at 251.5 feet MSL. To visit the Falls Lake levels, visit http://www.ncdrought.org/.

ITEM 4. TOWN OFFICES TO BE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY

Wendell town facilities will be closed on Monday, September 1st for the Labor Day holiday.

ITEM 5. OTHER:

A. Congratulations to Code Enforcement Officer Mary Kate Wise, who has performed twice for about five minutes at “Open Mike Night” at Charlie Goodnight’s Comedy Club.

B. Wake County Commissioner Lindy Brown has asked to talk to the Board of Commissioners at its September 22nd meeting concerning the issue of affordable housing.

C. The portion of Martin Pond Road that closed on April 14th for the Wendell Falls construction is now scheduled to re-open around the middle of September (one month later than originally discussed).
