Board of Commissioners Friday Update
August 15, 2008
ITEM 1. PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SEARCH
Public Works Director interviews were conducted this week. There is nothing else to report at this time about the selection of a Public Works Director.
ITEM 2. DROUGHT UPDATE
According to an August 14th News & Observer article, “Drought conditions persist particularly in parched western North Carolina, but more local governments are conserving water than a year ago…. Of the 660 public water systems in the state, 54 percent had water restrictions in place as of July… A year ago, only 12 percent of the systems had conservation measures in place”.
Moderate drought conditions prevail in the Triangle.
Falls Lake, which supplies water for most of Raleigh and Wake County, was about 2.5 feet higher than a year ago, and 90 percent of its water supply remains.

A digital copy of the plans was received this week, but it is too large to be distributed via email. A copy of the plans will be included in the August 25th agenda packet, along with a resolution of support for the board’s consideration.
The project is expected to cost about $685,000.
