ITEM 1. WENDELL PARK MASTERPLAN
East Carolina University’s Recreation and Leisure Class responsible for developing Wendell’s Comprehensive Open Space Master Plan made their first visit to Wendell today (Friday, September 3, 2010). The class left today with many questions about our town, such as what are Wendell’s needs, what makes us special, etc. They have been provided a roster of town employees with email addresses and phone numbers. The class will be calling Town employees asking for information. Town staff will be helping to answer their questions and provide information where needed in preparation of the plan.

The class will also be at the Wendell Community Center again on Friday, September 10, 2010 to work with staff in more detail on the plan. Commissioners wanting to meet the ECU class as well as NC State Recreation Consultant, Nate Halubka may arrive at 8:30 am. Mr. Halubka will be assisting the Town of Wendell with the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant (PARTF) at the appropriate time.

ITEM 8. SECOND ROUND OF WORKSHOPS ON EXPANDED BUS AND RAIL
OPTIONS SET FOR SEPTEMBER

Triangle citizens are invited to participate in a second round of public workshops on future bus and rail options. These community meetings on the Triangle Regional Transit Program (TRTP) will offer citizens the opportunity to respond to a technical analysis of transit corridors under study in Wake, Durham and Orange counties. The workshops will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and each session will have two formal presentations at 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Information presented at each meeting will include each county’s projects as well as the region. “As the Triangle continues to expand and our population grows to record numbers, it is crucial we design a transportation system that can meet future demands,” said David King, CEO and General Manager of Triangle Transit. “Hearing from people who live and work in the Triangle and are invested in this community, improves our ability to produce plans which meet these future needs.” The analysis will review the purpose and need for transportationrelated improvements and the criteria by which project alternatives have been evaluated. Meeting dates and locations are:
Date Locaton
Wednesday, Sept. 15
Northern/Eastern Wake - Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.

Wednesday, Sept. 22
Western Wake - Morrisville Town Hall, 100 Town Hall Dr.

Thursday, Sept. 23

ITEM 9. EARLY BIRD CROSSCOUNRTY INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, August 28, 2010, the East Wake High School Cross Country
Warriors and Wendell Parks and Recreation joined together to HOST the
Wendell Park Early Bird Cross Country Invitational. The event was well
attended by high schools throughout the state.

Throughout the day parents, coaches and participants shared nothing but positive
remarks on the quality and condition of the course and how well the event was
ran. Perhaps one of the best remarks was from a lady that said, “From talking to
others they would all like to see the event hosted at Wendell Park every year”.

Phillip took several photos of the meet and developed this small slide show, which may be viewed at the following website listed below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRgTykt1Lts&feature=channel.

The event was a huge success due to excellent organization, strong leadership, outstanding volunteers, local community support and the efforts of the East Wake Cross Country Warriors and the Wendell Parks and Recreation Department.
The fronts and backs of the t-shirts logs may be viewed in the attachments.
